Max Verstappen returned to form immediately this morning, landing the top spot at the end of FP1 ahead of the Austrian Grand Prix on Sunday.
His fastest lap in 1:05.143 saw him ahead of the Ferrari duo of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz, who opened their weekend showing some serious pace, trailing the leading Red Bull by just two-tenths of a second.
As Mercedes grapple to find the pace that can challenge Verstappen, they closed out the morning session with Valtteri Bottas leading in fourth, with teammate Lewis Hamilton back in seventh.
AlphaTauri’s Yuki Tsunoda is proving fond of this track, and after scoring points last weekend despite a three-place grid penalty, the Japanese driver was in fifth when time ran out in FP1.
Sergio Perez was in 8th this morning, followed by the second AlphaTauri of Pierre Gasly and McLaren’s Lando Norris in 9th and 10th.
