Lewis Hamilton has taken the win at the Portuguese Grand Prix to increase his championship lead.
Round three of the World Championship didn’t provide the close racing some were predicting, but it did allow Hamilton to display his immense talents that show no sign whatsoever of waning.
Whatever problems Mercedes was having in pre-season testing now looks to be a thing of the past, the Silver Arrows again having the upper hand on Red Bull.
To his credit, Max Verstappen made the most of the package available to him today and another second-place finish keeps him well in the race for the title.
Lewis Hamiltons move on teammate Valteri Bottas, who finished third, to take the lead was one of today’s race highlights.
Max Verstappen took second but was denied an extra point after his fastest time on the final lap of the race was deleted for exceeding track limits.
Today’s results will see 25 points for Hamilton, 19 for Verstappen – extending the gap in the championship to 7 points in Hamilton’s favour after round three.
Valtteri Bottas crossed the line in third, with Red Bull’s Sergio Perez fourth and McLaren’s Lando Norris in fifth, while Charles Leclerc again got the better of his Ferrari teammate finishing 6th, with Sainz down in 11th position.
The other points scorers today were Ocon, Alonso, Ricciardo, and Gasly.
