Lando Norris today secured his first-ever Formula One pole position at Sochi after a chaotic session.
Joining him on the front row is the Ferrari of Carlos Sainz and Williams’ George Russell.
Lewis Hamilton had been leading up until a spin at the pit lane. The team managed to repair his Mercedes, but time was not on his side when he returned to the track and will only start fourth for tomorrow’s race.
Speaking after Qualifying, a disappointed Hamilton said;
“Twice in the wall… that’s very rare for me.
“I’m really sorry to all the team because that’s not what you expect from a champion.”
“It was just a mistake from myself,” he said. “I’m incredibly disappointed in myself.
“Up until then I was in the groove, I was really in the zone, and I’m really sorry to all the team because that’s not what you expect from a champion. It is what it is and I will do my best tomorrow to try and rectify it.”
He added: “These things are sent to try us. I feel terrible right now but I’ll turn it into a positive.”
