Red Bull has revealed what its main challenge will be this season in order to ensure its RB18 continues to fight at the top of the field.
Teams are working within a strict budget this season, while also having to entirely redesign their cars to adhere to the new regulations.
After two rounds of the 2022 season, it’s clear that some teams have been more successful than others in creating a competitive contender.
According to Helmut Marko, the main issue now facing Red Bull is cutting weight from the car and doing so within the limits of the cost cap.
“It’s much more difficult to get off the weight because of the cost cap,” Marko told Formel1.de.

“You have to calculate more precisely where technical progress, where weight reduction and reliability [can be found], i.e. these three components, and then you have to find the right compromise.
“But one thing is clear: you certainly won’t be able to drive at the front of the field this season if you’re overweight.”
According to the new rules, teams are limited to a $140m budget this season, which has been proving most difficult for the sport’s highest spenders – Red Bull, Mercedes and Ferrari.
The teams have one week remaining until round three of the 2022 season in Australia as fans patiently await the next on track battle between Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc.
