Nico Rosberg has given his prediction for who will be battling it out in the second Red Bull next season alongside Max Verstappen.
Although Sergio Perez has been doing a good job this season so far, some have pointed to his inconsistencies and whether or not he’ll get a 2022 drive – while 2016 champ, Rosberg believes one other young man on the grid has done enough to earn the coveted seat.
AlphaTauri’s Pierre Gasly, who once claimed that spot, was demoted amid the 2019 season to their sister team after 12 races, while Alex Albon took the wheel.
However, this season the Frenchman has been well out-performing the AT02’s abilities and according to Rosberg has done enough to earn the drive in place of Perez next season.
“The way he is performing at the moment, they should put him in the Red Bull next year,” Rosbeg told Sky Sports F1.
“The problem is that they have this worry that he is maybe not able to deal with those pressure situations.
“In AlphaTauri at the moment, there is no pressure, his team-mate is away from him, he can be a team leader in an easy way.
“If you go as a team-mate to Max Verstappen, that is like the toughest situation to be in in the whole of Formula 1.
“That is why Red Bull has such difficulty in answering and that is the problem with choosing him and making it so difficult.”
