The Haas duo of Mick Schumacher and Nikita Mazpein continue to struggle through the 2021 season with a majorly underperforming VF21 as they look ahead at their potential for the rest of the season.
Schumacher started from P19 in Austria on the medium tyres while Mazepin took off from 20th on the same compound, finishing out the day in 18th and 19th respectively.
The team continuously owns the fact that their contender is nowhere near the performance seen throughout the rest of the field, having opted to make most of their updates next season.
However, Team Principal Guenther Steiner remains positive about the choice of an all-rookie lineup this year and says they’re getting better every weekend.
Speaking after the first triple header this season, Steiner said;
“It’s the end of our first triple-header this year – so, I think everybody’s ready to go home and get a little break before we get ready for the next race.
“We performed well as a team throughout this series of races, and obviously we’ve got a few more triple-headers coming this season.
“We’ll be well prepared, but it is tiring once you’re into them. From Austria’s race, we had the result we expected.
“Both guys put in a solid performance, there’s just not a lot more in it for us at the moment.
“The learning is continuous, and the drivers are getting better.”
