Red Bull’s Max Verstappen leads the pack early on this weekend with the fastest lap in 1:05.910s at the Red Bull Ring.
The Honda-powered contenders are holding up well so far, with Pierre Gasly going second fastest for AlphaTauri, just.256s off the lead – while his teammate Yuki Tsunoda was in fifth this morning.
However, the second Red Bull of Sergio Perez finished in 13th after he took a spin at Turn Four on the soft Pirellis.
Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas were in 3rd and 4th when time ran out this morning – on soft tyres.
They both spent time in the top spot this morning but were ultimately beaten out by the Red Bull and AlphaTauri on medium tyres.
“The session wasn’t great,” said Mercedes boss Toto Wolff to Sky Sports F1.
“[Our] main loss is straight-line speed. If we were racing this afternoon it wouldn’t be pretty.”
The Alpine duo of Esteban Ocon and Fernando Alonso were in P6 and P7 this morning and will be looking to hold onto their performance this afternoon, with rain threatening to fall during FP2.
The Ferraris finished FP1 with Charles Leclerc in 10th, while Carlos Sainz was another driver to take a spin after losing control of his Ferrari at the first corner – crossing the line in 11th.
FP2 kicks off this afternoon at 2 pm, until then, here are this morning’s results:
